Multiple denominations come together to launch newest Green Country church
On the morning of October 8, 2023, the sun was shining, and members of Grace United Methodist Church were ready to open their doors for their Grand Launch event.
Grace UMC is led by Pastor Tim McHugh who started off the 10 a.m. Sunday service with opening prayer. First Christian Church’s choir in Claremore led worship, and the entire sanctuary was singing. Nearing the end of service, Grace UMC welcomed three new members who decided to join the congregation.
The festivities began at 11 a.m. with BBQ meat, salads, and desserts — even a cotton candy machine. McHugh has realized “the power of food as a ministry” and food was the gift that led him to his “real passion” of becoming a pastor.
There was tons of entertainment for the children, as well. A bouncy house, cornhole, and even giant Jenga. With over 150 people in attendance, Grace UMC was incredibly touched by the outpouring of love from the Claremore community. The friends at First Presbyterian Church in Claremore presented Grace UMC with a beautiful set of ceramic communion ware and a message of encouragement signed by their congregation. The attendees of the Grand Launch were members of different churches and different denominations, but with one thing in common – a belief in God and love for Jesus.
McHugh set up a “wooden church” on a table with a slot for members of the community to write down their ideas on how Grace UMC can be there for them. Grace UMC wants to be known as a church that is there for the community and will always be there to help its neighbors. Upcoming community projects are “Adopt an Angel Toy Run” for Rogers County children, a clothing drive, and — coming soon — a food truck/mobile food pantry named “Grillin’ with Grace.”
Grace United Methodist is located on the west side of Claremore at 9472 SH -20, Claremore, 74019 with service beginning every Sunday at 10 a.m. All are invited to “come and see where Grace unites!”
