Mission & Ministry: Hispanic/Latino Ministry

2/7/2020

When people think of doing ministry with Hispanic and Latino communities, they may imagine familiar worship services or outreach efforts translated into Spanish. However, there is much more to Hispanic/Latino Ministry than language alone.

Hispanic/Latino Ministry serves congregations in the Oklahoma Conference by working to strengthen local churches, raise up leadership, and start new communities of faith.

Understanding various cross-generational and multi-ethnic contexts is an essential aspect of Hispanic/Latino Ministry. Because every neighborhood is different, these faith communities span every kind of ministry effort, from after school programs to multi-lingual churches.

In partnership with the National Plan for Hispanic/Latino Ministry of the United Methodist Church, the ministry will host three encuentros (encounters) for select conference churches in communities with a strong Hispanic/Latino or multi-ethnic presence.

During each encuentro, vision teams from each church will meet for strategic training and discipleship study. In between the encuentros, the teams will examine their church’s mission fields, discern a direction of ministry, create a proposed plan of action, and apply for a strategy grant from the National Plan for Hispanic/Latino Ministry.
